Mbeko Eco Club Outdoor Classroom Themes and Activities for 2019 – 2025

Explore the Mbeko Eco Club’s outdoor classroom themes and activities from 2019 to 2025, designed to immerse participants in hands-on learning experiences focused on environmental conservation and sustainability.

  • 12 March 25 – We hosted 18 learners at Paarl Water Purification and Treatment Plant to learn about water extraction and use in our homes and industries.
  • 26 March 25 – Water Week River Health Monitoring at Berg River.
  • 2 April 25 – School Holidays Green Hub Garden Camp soil care and seedlings planting Langabuya School Garden.
  • 9/10 April 25 – World Health Day food and nutrition programme planting of vegetables for resilient Urban communities.
  • 23 April 25 – My GreenCity Excursion at Paarl Water Purification Plant with Desmond Tutu Secondary School.
  • 25 April 25 – Harvesting at School Garden at Langabuya Primary School for food and nutrition feeding scheme.
  • 3 May 25 - Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve MyGreen City watershed Education. Desmond Tutu Secondary School.
  • 5 May 25 – Food and Nutrition project monitoring by Nation Builder.

  • 5 June 2025 – World Environmental Day – Food Garden harvesting and ecosystem beneficiation for food security at Langabuya Primary.

  • 25 August 2025 – Heineken volunteers Recognition for cleaning of the environment in Kuilspruit River.
  • 29 August 2025 - Berg River Clean Up. 3 tons of waste from the screams.
  • 5 September 2025 - Raised awareness about critical water infrastructure and water conservation of our rivers.
  • 11 September 2025 - MyGreenCity Food security Garden. Supplemented school feeding scheme with nutritious fresh vegetables.
  • 18 September 25 - World River Monitoring Day. 18 Learners were taught skills for doing river health monitoring of pollution.
  • 19 September 2025 - Greening myCity harvested for propagation and replanted for restoration of Berg River Eco Corridor.
  • 21 October 2025 – City of Cape Town Borcherd Quarry Wastewater infrastructure visit.
  • 23 October 2025 – Kaizen Institute Corporate Social Engagement at Langabuya Primary School food security garden harvesting and soil preparation.
  • 24 October 2025 – Harvesting and donating spinach to SCORE volunteers at Langabuya Primary School garden.
  • 3 November 2025 – Planting and growing tomatoes for 2025 – 2026 harvest season.
  • 20 November 2025 – Planting of green peppers with learners for 2026 January harvest season.
  • 17 January 24 – Langabuya Primary School Garden Harvesting tomatoes and peppers for the school feeding scheme which benefits 1000 learners with freshly grown vegetables.
  • 29 January 24 – Harvested and donated to 40 learners with freshly grown tomatoes and peppers to take home.
  • 7 February 24 – WET Wednesdays watershed education at Paarl water purification plant with 18 learners from Mbekweni Primary and Mboniselo Primary.
  • 8 February 24 – Harvested more tomatoes and peppers for the school feeding scheme with locally grown vegetables from the school garden.
  • 9 February 24 – Berg River Streams Clean Up in Mbekweni next to Ihlumelo Secondary School.
  • 9 February 24- Tree planting and vegetables seedlings with City of Munich, Bayern delegation and harvested vegetables from Langabuya Primary School.
  • 16 February 24 – We visited ERWAT Olifantsfontein wastewater treatment Plant with 18 learners from Phomolong Secondary School in Tembisa with Xylem Water Solutions our partner.
  • 28 February 24 – WET Wednesdays with Veolia South Africa at Paarl waste.
  • 8 March 24 – Water Week Launch at Rennie Farm. We visited to learn about water reuse for irrigation and livelihood resiliency with 17 Grade 10 learners from Desmond Tutu Secondary School to create awareness about watershed education and biodiversity for food security.
  • 11 March 2024- Donation of 20kg of surplus from the school feeding scheme garden to a local soup kitchen in Mbekweni.
  • 15 March 2024 – Water for peace and security – Planting of new crops at Langabuya Primary School food garden with teachers.

  • 17 April 2024 – Watershed Education at Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve and Water Purification plant with three primary schools ( Imboniselo, Ebenezer & Mbekweni).

Mbeko Eco Local Volunteers guided hiking excursion. Cave Art and Cape Floral Kingdom Biodiversity. While gaining a geographical landscape view of Drakenstein Municipality. This excursion was a combination of wellness and human geography orientation.
  • June 2019- Berg River Hero Race and Canoeing excursion with youth from Mbekweni excursion to create awareness about creational benefits of Nature and Water Sports for our wellness and recreation.
